The man with the iron fists review

The action packed martial arts film from the rapper ‘The Rza’ and the horror film director ‘Eli Roth’, with a star filled cast ranging from the Oscar winning Russell Crowe, the b-movie actress Lucy Liu, an MMA champion with a unique fighting style, Rza him self playing the title character the film is named after and a former WWE wrestler in David Bastia, a large cast of original and more or less well acted characters and a great cast to play these characters.

The film’s plot centering around a small village some where in Asia called ‘Jungle Village’ and about a large amount of gold one of the ninja clans that run the area have stolen, and so the good guy’s each either trying to save the village, get the gold back or get revenge. Where as the bad guy’s trying to keep the gold and stay rich and powerful, that’s the over all plot put simply but over all this is a very interesting when the characters are more fleshed out like they are in the film, Eli Roth and Rza make an interesting and story even if some of it has been done before, over all its all very well acted out and enough happened in the story for me to stay interested through out, the shots in the film are very reminds me of Quinton Tratenio.

The characters in the film are all well collected and you really feel that even though most of the characters could have just been psycho killers they each have there own different motivations beyond just mindless and gory killing, and even then the main character doesn’t do anything fighting till the last act of the film, is really not just the average fighting guy who doesn’t want to fight, but there are characters who are really just killers, but that is really down to the bad writing and really bland acting when compared to others, David Bastia not being the worst actor but is really showed up by the other actors and actresses in the film so it really shows that he isn’t the strongest actor but really not the worst, Russell Crow plays the anit-hero ‘Jack Knife’ with a sort of swish army corkscrew knife which has a lot of uses and makes his all ready interesting character and adds to him even more, the members of the ninja clan are also interesting characters even if they are less defined by the fact they are evil, they are good villains but still they don’t have much else apart from being bad guy’s, but they actors play them one, the only female lead character is played by Lucy Liu and she is played very well by this character, as a manipulating powerful woman who runs the towns brothel.

‘The Rza’ also does the music and he has quite the skill for making music that goes with the fights, as he did all the music for the very well done anime ‘Afro Samurai’ and the music for that really did suit the scenes and the action that happened and you can really feel that this film really has the same feel when compared to some more modern action and marital art’s film that have generic and the same music you really get the same scene feel from it and that the same genre but live action and a lot more famous people then just Samuel L. Jackson.

The effects in the film are really well done and I think it’s the only film I have seen where slow motion really didn’t ruin the film and it felt like it was really made to make some characters seem slower and others feel faster, and not  in this film it really didn’t feel out of place at all and it helped show how much faster the characters where compared to the others, and I think this is the only way that slow motion should really be used and not to be used for nearly no reason in the film and have no real reason to use it.

Over all it is a really good film and a great way to see what these three minds can make up, a well acted martial arts film, with all of the actors giving it there all and looking like they are really having fun with the roles they are given and the world they are playing characters in this world that the directors and producer have made up, a really great film I would really recommend to any marital arts fan or just action films over all.
