Stupid Movie Vs.!

Black Dynamite Vs. Hobo with a shotgun (there’s a few spoilers, so…go watch the films first if you care that much)

Now, I just want to state right away..i love these films, they are both over the top love letters to exploitation, Where as ‘Hobo with a shotgun’ is a love letter to gory low budget films of the past ‘Black Dynamite’ is a spoof of the 1970s blaxploitation films, both films are pretty cool in there own way one being are over the top in there own ways, from acting, to gore, to just characters themselves.

Going in no real order, Black Dynamite back ground frist!

The idea coming to mind by the main star Michael J. White, he rented some costumes and put some sets together to send to the films director, who went with the idea and a trailer was made before the script, a fairly unorthodox of film making but you can’t question results, and that is how ‘Black Dynamite’ was born. Getting both a comic book and a cartoon series after the film release.

Hobo with a shotgun was a much simpler stupid idea, a contest winning trailer for Quinton Tarraentino’s and Robert Rodriguez’s joint film ‘Grindhouse’

Two short films paying homage to the old school ‘Grindhouse’ films, with fake films in the same style playing between,   These trailers were made by Rob Zombie, Eger Wright, Eli Roth and Robot Rodriguez himself, each one being a certain exploitation Grindhouse film

, and in certain cinemas played the Canadian contest winning trailer ‘Hobo with a shotgun’. This is the 2nd one of these fake trailers to be made into a real film, with Machete being the first, so this to me gives hope that Nick Cage will get to play ‘Fu Man Chu’

The greatest casting choice ever!

The Main Characters!

Black Dynamite, Yes that is his name, is one of the most badass film characters to come to screen in a long time, kung fu knowing, Ex-CIA agent turned Pimp.

Hobo, he doesn’t get a name, is a hobo who rode the rails into a town called ‘Hope’, which makes Gotham City look like Smurf Village, he is just a man who wants to start a business mowing lawns, till he is pushed too far and becomes the ‘Hobo with a shotgun’ who has to fight an insane crime family, there lackeys and a pair of Demonic Bounty hunters know as ‘The Plauge’

Now, both are over the top characters but where as Black Dynamite is by far the most badass person in his world The Hobo is just a man pushed to far, who never ever has to reload or buy shells for his shotgun.

Both are played really well for their actors and set the world they are in. Where as Black Dynamite is an over the top parody, Hobo with a shotgun is a fairly dark humored serious toned film with cheap effects and over the top insane people.

The Bad Guys!

That is the main problem with Black Dynamite; because he is so insanely awesomeness of badass, he basically one shot’s everyone with a

. The only two really memorable bad guys in this are ‘Fiendish Doctor Wo!’ and ‘Richard Nixon’ Now Dr.Wo, is a Chinese stereotype evil master mind type, who rules over ‘Kung Fu Island’ where there are secret labs developing all sorts of evil concoctions, he is the 1st person in the film to even slightly stand up to Black Dynamite even able to kill one of Black Dynamites friends ‘Bull Horn’ so he became a friend killed by

and Richard Nixon his the man behind the evil plan of the film, shrinking black men’s dicks, and Nixon is pretty badass in this film, being  the only character who is able to go toe to toe with Black Dynamite, with nun chucks and Kung Fu skills, there is also some sort of drug lord, but he only really gets badass if you watch the deleted scenes.

Hobo with a shotgun bad guys are as followed. A father and son’s combo of criminals, Drake being the father and his two sons Slick and Ivan. Slick being the favorite son and Ivan being the unfavorite hard. A pair of Demonic motorcycle riding Bounty Hunters who live in a caste with some sort of tentacle monster they have to fight in their basement, Rip and Grinder,. There faces are never seen and don’t bleed Red  and wear some pretty intimidating amour

As well as an army of Dirty cops, because pretty much every cop is a dirty.

The Weapons:

I am pretty sure that in both these films nearly every character never needs to reload a fun of any kind, which suits the genre and style that these films are made in, with Black Dynamite with his handgun and The Hobo with his trusty 49.99 dollar shot gun.

The other characters:

Black Dynamite has a cast of slightly characters, from a betraying CIA agent former best friend, an only talking in rhymes Bull Horn, to the wannabe pimp Creamcorn, as well as kung fu bitches all on his side. The problem being that none of these characters seem that important or do anything but either die or flash back do something when compared to all the stuff in the world.

Now as for The Hobo, he get’s one friend who doesn’t try to kill him at least once, and she is called Abby, and goes from a hooker who The Hobo saves, to her own little miss badass by the end of the film, she does lose her hand in the process, and uses the bone to stab Drake nearly to death and manges to kill one of The Plague her self, and in the alternative ending, as she killed on the ‘The Plague’ she has to become one, and she becomes one with a shotgun attached to about five other shotguns, that just reminds me of the Simpsons so it made me laugh more.

But in the end, as she is more important and not that forgettable she is the better side character.

Who would win in a fight?

Black Dynamite, that question is stupider then the films themselves. It’s just that Black Dynamite walks through weirder things then The Hobo has faced, if Black Dynamite was in the town of Hope. Drake and his sons would be dead before they even had a chance to call in ‘The Plague’ and I’m all ready pretty sure Black Dynamite would just walk over both of them, so yeah in a one on one fight, The Hobo dose doesn’t stand a chance.

But in the end, what’s the stupider film?

Because it’s a parody…Black Dynamite is the stupider film, they purposely leave in movie mistake’s, like misspoken lines, actors getting replaced, boom mic’s creeping in shot and it really has the feel that this film was really made in the height of the Blackspoation movie craze, with leads to the fact it was made 5 years ago, Where as Hobo with a shotgun looks like a exploitation film that was made today on a low budget with the low budget gore and hammy acting, apart from the guy who plays the hobo, whos acting is really amazing in this film and bring a whole sense of serious that Black Dynamite lacks, making it the much stupider film.
