Fullmetal Alchemist is set in fictional Europe right?

I assume i might get someone angry writing this but i don’t care. Coz i don’t think i have a point really.
While i have only watched the Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood anime,i’m no expert on this series but i’m pretty sure its set in a sort of fictionalize Europe with some crazy awesome magical science of alchemy changing up history. They do have a Fuhrer and very European architecture.
So, why is everyone in a live action film going to be non-European actors? It’s super great to have international actors tied to a big budget hollywood film and seeing bigger studios more open to over sea’s casting and trying to not white wash stuff is also great. But i don’t think this would be white washing if they did get white actors in for this serious for many of the characters.
But many of the characters are white and germanic, there are indeed some characters who are not white such as Ling Yao, Lan Fan and Ling Yao who hail from the fictional county of Xing which appears to be based on China. It would be a massive fuck up if any of these characters where whitewashed. The same goes with Scar or any of the Ishvalans who have darker skin if they where played by someone with lighter skin.
I don’t really know if i have a point here so i guess i’ll just stop. I was just thinking out loud with the internet. With every adaptation changes always happen, something i’m glad off as i hate seeing the same story twice, so there will properly be a change in the live action films setting to suit the actors. That or ignore it and just throw all the characters into steampunkish magical Europeish and try to make a good film and tell a good story, in the hopes of being able to make the 2 or 3 films it would take to tell the full story of the manga. Coz it took Brotherhood anime quite a few episodes and a film i haven’t seen.
