Asura’s Wrath Review

Asia’s answer to god of war, Asura’s Wrath takes more form Hindu and Buddhist cosmology, in the same way God of War takes from greek Myth’s and legends. The story of one demi-god’s path of revenge and a quest to save his daughter and the earth its self, a really unforgetable visual experience of a game.
This game has one of the best and well-written story’s from ‘Capcom’ I have seen for age’s , telling the story of ‘Asura’ a Demi-God and by far the angriest video game character around, and family man, as we are greeted by the idea of him and 6 other Demi-gods fighting a never ending battle agesent some animalist and evil creatures called the ‘Gohma’, with the first opening scene we are given the set op of the this 3 part story and through right into the action free falling from space and shooting these massive moon sized space fish, this will all seem a bit more normal as the game goose on, as then you find out there is some kind of evil monster living inside the planet these Demi-god’s are protecting, this is ‘the will of the planet’ by the end of the first battle Asura is able to help put this monster back to sleep by punching and shooting it and with the help of his daughter ‘Mirtha’ who can boast the power inside the demi-god’s. When this battle is happening you are greeted by each demi-god in the game with a wide selection of personality’s and designs. But after this great battle is finished Asura is called to meet the king who is in charge of everything, finding him dead Asura is framed for his murder and soon has to fight his way to prove his innocent and protect this family, but as soon as he finds his wife dead and his daughter kidnapped he is out matched by the other 6 demi-gods who have framed him and kidnapped his daughter and killed. This is just the start of the game…one of the many times that you die in game, this is really a crazy and amazing ride of a story with a large collection of interesting character design’s and personality’s, this is the story of Asura rescuing his daughter, and getting his vengeance for not only him self, his wife and the planet its self, as an angry Demi-God through out this story you really feel very little can stop you as you fight you way through the army’s and your former allies. Fighting onwards even when he has no arm’s to fight with.
Asura him self at first starts out as just your generic angry guy looking for vengeance but later as you see more of the character be fleshed out, you see him as a good-hearted and rather humble compared to the other Demi-god’s, just wanting to protect the world and use his anger for somting good, you later see that his whole reason for going to war with a whole army and 6 demi-god’s is for his daughter, you really feel like this guy is one of the best dad’s in video game’s, and that is with out talking about the true ending where he dose something even more drastic as a real god made his daughter cry.
And that is really just only two of these memorable boss fights.
The other demi-god’s are not the one note boss characters you can think they are, each having a different way of fighting and personality, from the battle hugry and trainers of Asura and Yasha, the other playable character, Augus the powerful, good hearted man who only lives for battle and is blind, and yet is still the 2nd most powerful Demi-god, even before his fight with Asura he lets him rest and get back to full strength so they can have an epic all out brawl on the moon, no idea how they get to the moon but they do, and have a all out brawl that is one of the most epic endings in the game.
The other mot memorable boss fight is really the first boss you face, in his 3rd stage this big massive guy all ready turns him self into being bigger then the planet him self and try’s to poke you to death from space, and you have to fight his finger tip, and punch his finger tips so hard he explodes.
The very cinematically driven game Asura’s Wrath is really a one of a kind experience visually, I really don’t think you will see any other game with this kind of mind blowing and jaw dropping visual’s, this and the story are by far the best parts of the game and really make this game really stand out and be something different in a game market that has very few bits of difference in right now.
The game play its self is pretty simple, mixing Devil May Cry and Lolipop chainsaw, hack and slash style game, with a rail shooter and a lot of quick time events, the game play is really where the game lack’s anything that new but dose have an interesting idea for the main character ‘Asura’ he doesn’t get upgrades in the more gameplay wise but the anger the character is his fighting style changes wih it, such as at a base level he just has two arms and is relatively normal and standard move set, but when he get’s 6 arm’s and is pretty angry his move’s change completely, with the lack of real upgrades and combo’s this makes you feel that by the start of the game you are pretty powerful Demi-god.
Over all a pretty amazing visual experience and a amazing story, the games main left down by the fighting, quick time events and rail shooting sections. An awesome story full of interesting characters and settings, one of the most visual appealing games I have played, I think it really would have made a much better anime then it did a game, but it was an interesting project for Capcom to back and I am very glad they did.
But don’t get it if you don’t like quick time event’s is also a way to put this simply.
