For my extra curricular activity, I aimed to use the university’s radio room, and my own mac. To dub over a Marvel comic book, adding voices, sound effects and background music to one of my all time favourite comic books, Nextwave: Agents of Hate written by ‘Warren Ellies’. As I wasn’t able to do all the voices I wanted my self, I reached out to my fellow students for roles they wanted to take, each person doing 1 to 4 different voices.
Getting the music from /incompetech.com/ and the sound effects from; http://www.soundjay.com/ , http://www.freesfx.co.uk/ and http://soundbible.com/, using these to help tell the story in a new way, during this time I also learned how to use premier and audition a lot more by self, as I have been working on this for about the past 8-9 weeks and this was a mix of; turning the comic into a script ,voice recording, editing the comic into single panels, finding and editing the right sound effects and the images together in premier and final I am putting this all together to make the twenty minute video.
The pain problems I faced with this was when I tired to get the voices together people where busy as it was nearing the last few weeks of university and so it was hard to organise people, but I have done so with pretty much good success, the only other main problem was my own fault as I was the spelling mistakes and errors in the script its self, but I like to think I have learned from the mistakes I have made this time and hope that the next time I do this, the script will be of a higher quality, as I do plan to do more of these comic dubs, with plans to dub the comic book ‘Joker’ written by ‘Brian Azzarello’ and do it in the same style as well as ‘Empowered’ written by ‘by Adam Warren’, with music and sound effects helping bring the experience of the comic book to life.
I think that the main problem I could face is the possible that youtube/marvel/Disney, will try to take this video down for the possible copy right violation, but as long as I put below that the comic and all the characters belong to there respective owners and how I’m not making any money from it I hope to be safe from the video being taken down, and I think that the way this works is that the people who have done the voices own the voices but marvel still owns the characters.
In conclusion, I have learned quite a lot about editing both moving images, sound and even a little about Photoshop, through the process of doing my own little project and running with an idea I have had for a good few years but lacked the equipment and the number of people who could and where happy to help me with there voice talents.
