State of Decay Review
The PC and Xbox Live arcade zombie survival game, with a emphasis on survival and less on the shooty, killy bloody ness of most zombie games. With a concentration on character building, story and scavenging to find food and other needed survival stuff.
I got the Xbox live version for about £15, real money to Microsoft points conversions escape me right now, and as this s a game that was made for the xbox live version, it wasn’t a disc game that got downgraded, you really feel like I got a full package deal and it doesn’t feel like anything was missing, this is a finished game, and a excellent one at that, All through there are multiple problems and glitches with the game their isn’t anything major or game breaking.
The gameplay is really good, with a concentration on sneaking around, melee fighting and sneaky attacks, with some great looking finishing moves and sneak attacks and even when the zombies get the best of you get a very impressive looking death, with you being ripped in half by zombies. Along with that when a character dies that is it, they are dead, they cannot be brought back or used again so this makes you care a lot more about what you are doing with them this does lead to the shooting and driving controls to be a bit stiff but I think this may be on purpose for the shooting at least, as there are levels to improve this but I don’t use guns…as they are loud and it lead to two of my characters dying a zombie ripping apart death.
The games zombies are pretty smart, reacting to sounds and noises or seeing you when you are not hiding or sneaking, as is common with modern zombie games there are special infected or freaks. As they are called in game. From the big monster sized fat ones, to the rather weak swat zombies, the deadly feral zombies and the quite annoying screamers and blotters. And the big hordes that should not be taken on with out the right equipment and maybe a car to mow them down, these zombies, all of them even the normal ones, all feel like a threat and you have to think about if you could live through your actions and the draw backs that could happen from your fight.
The story seems pretty good, I have yet to finish it, as it’s a big game and I have been spending my time explore the massive map of the game, which helps this world come to life, being able to enter every building on the map, and it takes around a whole in game day to get from one side of the map to the other really heps you feel the size of this world you are in.
Over all this is an amazing game for its price and arcade style, its 100% worth the price and an amazing game experience.
